Dance at Bougiva

You are the moon
I am the water
we float like lovers
lost in time

and a quiet sea
of distant dreamers
in sunlit seats
watch our dance

All around are trees
and leaves
and flowers gathered
for a wedding gown

And everybody cries
you can’t, don’t try
but given the chance
you too would fly

And when the sun sets
they will be lit by stars
those lovers in a painting
by August Renoir

Maybe how I would like life to be. – after a painting by August Renoir.
