The Monster

From sulphured mud a feral form
crept on its belly
conquered fear
its ravenous jaws
devoured and plundered
all that strayed within its sphere

No feast could sate its gluttony
no prize escape
its vulgar greed
in place of guilt
it built false gods
to grant redemption from its deeds

The sea that gave it life
polluted
the earth
deep scarred
bled bare
it snatched and sacked
without concern
and breathed its last in poisoned air

The human race evolved and poisoned the very planet which gave it life..
